Delaware, Mississippi Prepare for post-PASPA legalization

Legislation

The States of Delaware and Mississippi have long been planning to step up their gaming revenue obtained from games of skill. On Thursday, the pair has inched even closer to this sacred goal by fleshing out plans to unroll single-game sports betting on the territory of the states.

Delaware’s Department of Finance announced on Thursday that the state Attorney General’s office had reiterated the original stance that there are no legal hurdles to prevent Delaware from engaging into sports betting in a manner that both complies with the law and observes the burgeoning industry’s own rule of conduct.

The Facts about Delaware and Mississippi

The US Supreme Court repealed a ban on gambling on Monday 14 May, opening up the sluice gates for further gambling across states. The nullification of PASPA has led Delaware to offer ‘parlay football wagers.’ According to Delaware, the state had been considering the measure in the months leading up to what transpired on Monday.

To implement the measure, though, Delaware will have to carry out some preparations. Finance Secretary Rick Giesenberger has said that the state will begin with software testing and start training staff. Initially, casinos will be the only licensed venues that can offer parlays, but as soon as everything has been concluded successfully, more venues will be added, including bars and taverns.

Meanwhile, New Jersey is also forging ahead with ideas of its own. The Garden State is pushing for gaming licenses and Delaware will end up neck-and-neck with Delaware, vying for the right to be the first licensed sports betting state.

Mississippi Steps Its Game Up With Betting Registrations

The Mississippi Gaming Commission (MC) has been also working on its own sports betting regulations. Mississippi will now allow betting on the premises of its 28 licensed brick-and-mortar casinos.

Currently, the regs will be available to challenge over the course of 25 days and the Commission intends to formalize them on 21 June, during an officially scheduled meeting. If the measures are approved, there will be a 30-day period, allowing the providers of the services in question to adapt their offer.

Mississippi Goes Mobile

With the proposed set of rules, customers will be quite happy to know that mobile betting will be an option. However, all mobile wagers will have to be carried out on the premises of the casinos and nowhere else. However, this is a nice first foray into the mobile betting. Following suit, other states may enact the same measures allowing their brick-and-mortar operators to take mobile punts.

Ahead of the Pack

Mississippi has been prescient enough to anticipate the ruling on Monday and set in motion the cogwheels of the sophisticated machinery. Every state is now debating what to do in light of mounting pressure to legalize betting. Although there is a fair bit of opposition to argue the toss, it’s very likely that the United States will see its gambling industry legalized en masse. Voted by the people for the people, Delaware and Mississippi may be at the helm of a revolution.
